RC Helicopter reaches 570ft

This is an onboard video that I created for fun. I didn't use any FPV system, I just flew it as high as I could see! If it was a bigger helicopter, I could probably reach higher.

Tail Pitch slider camera!!!

I have mounted a camera on the boom of my 500 to see how the tail pitch slider behaves in flight. This video shows how little the slider moves, I was doing tik toks and full pitch punches and it hardly moves.

Thinking of a 250...

I am considering buying a Trex 250 as they are selling for only £115 and lipos are only £10-£20. Also, it would be fun to fly in the garden over the winter. If I do end up buying one, I will probably make a build video.

RC Powers E-book

I know this is mainly directed to plane flyers but is also useful for helicopter flyers. Dave Powers from RCPOWERS.com has created a great E-book. I know it was created a while ago but it contains some great (useful) information.

Tom has CRASHED!!!

I honestly don't know what happened, It was one of those crashes when I just lost orientation, I just couldn't save it because it was too low. I know that losing orientation is normally what people get used to not doing, but when its already on the deck, just a split second and its going in. All I know is that it was completely my fault! These are the results.
Broken parts:
Boom
Blades
Main gear
3 servo gears
1 servo horn
Main shaft

I think these blades are ok, but whats your opinion? Please comment or send me a message on the 'Contact Me' page.

Nice carpet ay!

3D UK Champions 2010 - 26th september

It was a great weekend at the event, just the weather was chilly. If you haven't ever seen what these RC helicopters can do, I highly recommend visiting it. This is just a short music video that I created in my spare time.

Here is a great video from the event, it is Charlie Cave's Victory Flight:

My Review of the BEASTX

The Microbeast BeastX is one of the top FBL (flybarless) units on the market and for a very competitive price. I decided to buy one a couple weeks ago after seeing it in action at my local flying club. My first impressions were that it was a very nice unit, it has all the programing features you could ever need and it retails at approximately £150. As this was my first FBL unit, I had no experience on what to expect. Looking at the manual hurt my head a little because of all the different settings (but don't let this put you off), I kept all of these as default apart from the important ones like servo frequency and swash mixing etc...

After getting to grips with the settings, I have now changed them to the way I like it. It really makes the heli feel a lot more stable and also more manoeuvrable. The feeling of have no flybar is quite strange at first, but this is easy to get used to. I got used to it very quick and I prefer it without a flybar. It's got so many more advantages, longer flights, more power, more stable. The only dis-advantage (that some people see) is the way it flys, but I honestly don't see that as a problem.

Here are a few pictures of it on my Trex 500:

Welcome to tom's new blog

Hi Guys,

My name is Tom (probably a bit obvious) and my favourite hobby is RC helicopters. As a regular 15year old you might think that I would rather be inside playing video games, but I'm not like that. I think that flying my helicopter is a lot more exciting. I first started this hobby in February 2010 and have sticked to it ever since. As I am still at school I can't afford all the heli's I would like, but I try my best. At the moment I own an ALIGN Trex 500 ESP, which has been a great heli for me. I have own this heli since the start of May 2010, before this heli I owned a Trex 450 (which I do no longer have). At the moment I only own 2 working heli's, The 500 and the all mighty BLADE MSR.
